ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING BY AMAR STEWART.

STUDY.

This piece is part of Amar's "History of HIP-HOP" solo show which was hosted at Sweet Science in Brooklyn, NY. The body of work celebrates HIP-HOP culture by recreating Golden Age paintings from the 17th Century. Inspirations come from Rembrandt, Frans Hals, De Goya, Van Dyke and more.

The piece nods to the title "Ready to Die" but also touches on Biggie's early life and his background on the streets playing with death. Skulls were often used as props for models who would sit for artists in the 17th century. The skull represents Mortality.
