The Angie Martinez Project

Last Thursday, June 7th, I headed over to Power 105.1 to hand deliver a painting for a special project!  I had spent the previous month creating a piece for Angie Martinez, The Voice of New York, of her friend Biggie.  I had known that Angie and Biggie were tight before his passing but never realized just how close they really were.  It wasn’t until my agent read Angie’s memoir, My Voice, that I discovered the full extent of their relationship.  When painting Biggie, I’ve always painted him in a way that reflects how he has served as an inspiration for me over the years.  But for this piece, because of the nature of their friendship, I knew I had to approach it from a whole different perspective.  It needed more emotion and something deeper and more powerful.  The final painting features a powerful portrait of Biggie in the iconic Coogi brand on a 72"x42" canvas.

It was great to meet Angie and her team who welcomed me into their world with open arms. Angie loved the piece and it will now be on display in the Power 105.1 Studios in Manhattan. Check out the pictures and videos of how it all went down.

Also peep the shirts I just released on my online store based off the original artwork.
