The original painting which this bronze sculpture is based off was part of my Hip-Hop Royalty series. This collection homogenized Hip-Hop artists as Kings, Queens and people of power in the 17th and 18th century. People of color were not celebrated during this time and often looked down on.

It was popular to include skulls in paintings in the 17th century, as skulls symbolized the ephemeral nature of life.

The album cover which inspired this piece, titled “Ready to Die” by Notorious B.I.G. made for an interesting piece as life is short.

This piece was created by Russian Sculptor Anton Tische with art direction by Amar Stewart.
